| TRADERS UPSET OVER DEFERMENT OF POK TRADERS VISIT ACROSS LOC | | | Jammu, March 22 Traders in Jammu and Kashmir looking forward to welcome the trade delegation from across the line of control are dejected over the deferment of the visit of a delegation of traders. The visit was being organized with an aim to boost trade ties and explore possibility of starting trade activity in the region. The POK delegation of traders was initially scheduled to visit Srinagar and Jammu between March 13 and 18. Traders in both the summer and the winter capitals of the state had done a lengthy exercise on the preparation of a list of items that could be exported to occupied Kashmir and Pakistan However, postponement of the visit has dampened their spirits. President Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Ram Sahai said today “we know this much that the visit of the delegation of traders from Pakistan occupied Kashmir has been deferred.” Asked what about the visit of traders from Jammu and Kashmir to Muzaffarabad, for which the stage had been laid four months ago Sahai said “it too has been kept in abeyance and we do not know when clearance would be given to us by the Government.” A senior police officer said, “the visit of the delegation of traders from Muzaffarabad was postponed because we did not receive any list of the traders who intended to visit Srinagar and Jammu which was mandatory for issuing visas in their favour.” Asked whether the deferment was the result of weather related problems which had blocked Muzaffarabad-Srinagar road the officer said “no this was not the reason.Traders who intended to visit Jammu and Kashmir had neither received clearance from Pakistan nor their list was forwarded to us for approval and visa.”Traders connected with fresh and dry fruit trade, handicrafts, spices, motor spare parts, including tyres and tubes, and medicines feel dismayed over the delay in the exchange of traders delegation. Ram Sahai and other leaders of commerce and industries said that “many among us had hopes of exporting a wide range of items to Muzaffarabad which could have benefited growers and producers. In return import of rock salt, cotton suits, resin and dry fruits could have enabled people to buy such items at cheaper rates.” Those connected with chamber of commerce and industries have renewed their demand that India and Pakistan take up the issue of using Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakot routes, which are open for traffic, for trade also. Some of them favour reopening of Suchetgarh-Sialkot route so that a number of items from the Jammu region could exported with less transporation cost.
