| AEE caught red handed while accepting bribe Centeur employee in vigilance net for disproportionate assets | | Accused owns hotel, Cherry garden, residential buildings | | Srinagar, Mar 22 An Assistant Executive Engineer of Gulmarg Development Authority was caught red handed while accepting bribe from a contractor by a team of Vigilance Organisation, which also registered a case against an official of government owned Centeur Lake View Hotel, Srinagar for acquiring disproportionate assets. Sources in the State Vigilance Organisation said that Khurshid Anwar Shah, AEE Magam Sub-Division of Gulmarg Development Authority was arrested red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.2000 from a contractor for passing his bill worth Rs.1.16 lacs. The contractor, identified as Altaf Ahmad Ganie son of Ali Mohd Ganie of Agrikalan, Magam had lodged a written report with Vigilance alleging that the accused is demanding illegal gratification from him as a consideration for passing a bill worth Rs.1.16 lacs against a government work executed by him. A Case was registered in Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir and investigation taken up. In the course of investigation the officials of State Vigilance Organisation proceeded to Magam and laid a successful trap during which the accused was caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs.2000 from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir. Meanwhile, Vigilance Organisation also registered a case against Aijaz Ahmad Lala, an employee of Centeur Lake View Hotel, Srinagar belonging to a PSU, Hotel Corporation of India Ltd, for having acquired property through corrupt means which is disproportionate to his known sources of income. During enquiries Shri Aijaz Ahmad Lala in his capacity as public servant was found to have acquired through corrupt means valuable assets apparently disproportionate to his known sources of income. Sources said that the accused owned a house at Rajbagh, Srinagar over a piece of land of 18 marlas in his own name which has been converted it into hotel Lee Lords. Besides this he is also having ten kanals of land at Harpora Harwan, Srinagar converted into a Cheery garden and One kanal and five marlas of land under khasra No.118 at sector B-2 Lakshmi Puram, Chinnore, Jammu on which construction of a residential house is in progress. The verification conducted further revealed that the only known and visible source of income available to Lala is his salary. The assets thus found in the possession of the accused are apparently disproportionate to his known sources of income which constitutes offences punishable under section 5(1) (e) r/w section 5(2) P.C Act 2006. Sources said that based on the preliminary investigation a case has been registered against him and investigation taken up. A vigilance team also raided the residential premises of the accused during which some incriminating documents relating to acquisition of assets by Mushtaq Ahmad Kenu, SSP, brother-in-law of the accused have been recovered. The search was still in progress, when the last report came in.
