| Talks over troop reduction to continue: Mufti | | | New Delhi, March 22 Discussions over troop reduction in Jammu and Kashmir would continue, former state chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said here Thursday after a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The issue has been a source of continuing tension between Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP), a ruling coalition partner in the state, and the ruling Congress.
The PDP recently intensified its demand to reduce troops in the state and revoke the special powers given to security forces. The party has even threatened to withdraw its support to the Congress-led coalition government.
Indicating that he had bought time for his party's demands, the PDP patron told reporters after his 90-minute meeting with the prime minister that he had also held detailed talks with National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan Wednesday evening.
Asked if the survival of the coalition was under threat, Mufti said: "Don't put the cart before the horse."
Mufti had arrived in the national capital Wednesday after Manmohan Singh Sunday invited him for talks to resolve the political crisis in the state.
