J&K state swiftly marching to become ideal and captivating tourist destination worldwide: Azad
‘All newly created TDAs to be equipped with modern and sophisticated tourism infrastructure’

“The network of tourism development authorities covering all tourism potential areas of the state are now required to accomplish the task of creating modern and sophisticated tourist-oriented infrastructure within two years in order to make all development authorities ideal and captivating tourist spots for national and international tourists”, said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad while reviewing implementation of various projects under Pantnitop, Poonch, Rajouri, Lakhanpur-Sarthal, Bhadarwah, Mansar-Sruinsar and Kishtwar tourism development authorities of Jammu division at a high level meeting here today.
The meeting besides chief executive officers of the tourism development authorities was also attended by Principal Secretary Planning and Development Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Commissioner/Secretary Finance Mr. B. B. Vyas, Secretary R&B Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Secretary Tourism Mr. Naeem Akhtar, Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Director Tourism Jammu Mr. Ajay Khajuria and other senior officers.
Chief Minister said that since last one year has been taken by all tourism development authorities to prepare plans and projects and now the time has come to translate these into action, for which he has been able to get adequate funds from the centre received by the state government accordingly.
Mr. Azad advised all chief executive officers of the authorities to maintain proper coordination with other development agencies to accomplish the projects in a time bound manner.
Chief Minister emphasized that tourist reception centres equipped with accommodation, information and interpretation centres, recreation centres and other facilities, in all tourism development authorities in a uniform manner so that its facilities are utilized by tourists as well as locals. For the purpose, he on-the-spot selected an ideal design prepared by chief executive officer of Rajouri tourism development authority, to be adopted by all the authorities.
Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir state with its proud civilization and heritage has treasure of ideal sites particularly spiritual-oriented shrines, cave shrines, temples, graves of proud kings, forts and other tourist-oriented spots which can be properly maintained and promoted in order to attract tourists from all parts of the country as well as abroad.
Mr. Azad emphasized for identifying all Mughal heritage sites in the state so that these become points of attraction for the people throughout the sub-continent.
The meeting was apprised that perspective plans for all the development authorities in the division have been prepared.
Chief Minister while reviewing headway made on implementation of various projects under Patnitop tourism development authority issued instructions for improving and upgrading circular road at Kud and also illuminating it as an added tourist attraction. He also stressed for improvement of peripheral roads and sewerage and drainage system besides creation of parking lots, wherever required.
He while taking stock of projects being formulated under Poonch tourism development authority said that restoration of fort should be taken up with priority on restoring its darbar hall.
Chief Minister also had a detailed review of various projects that have been conceived under Rajouri tourism development authority including wayside facilities.
Chief Minister during review of schemes formulated to be taken up under Lakhanpur-Sarthal tourism development authority advised that an attractive tourist infrastructure with modernized facilities like parks and shopping arcade should be put in place at Lakhanpur being the gateway of the state. He was also informed about the tourist-oriented facilities being created under the authority at Basohli, Billawar, Sukrala, Bani, Sarthal and enroute. He stressed the need for setting up an art gallery and other art related facilities at Basohli.
He was also given a detailed presentation on various facets of projects including setting up of amusement parks, toy-train, camel and pony rides and other facilities being created at Mansar and Sruinsar.
Chief Minister also took comprehensive review of various projects that have been taken in hand or in the pipeline for promoting Bhadarwah area as an ideal holiday resort with modern facilities for leisure, recreation and adventure tourism. He also took stock of concept plans prepared for Jai, Nalthi, Khalleni Kellar, Sarol Bagh, Gatha and Kursari for the purpose.
Chief Minister also discussed concept and modalities for developing fort at Bhadarwah as a heritage site with several attractions from tourism point of view.
