Rs 175 cr Ranbir Canal modernization project under execution
Dr Sharma inspects on-going works, visits flood affected areas

For modernization of 60 km long Ranbir Irrigation Canal, out of Rs 175 crore under execution project Rs 75 crore have been spent so far.
This was stated by Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Dr Romesh Chander Sharma while inspecting on-going works under the project today. Dr Sharma visited various modernization sites of Ranbir Canal including Muthi, Domana, Simbliwala and Akhnoor.
Dr. Sharma took stock of the on-going de-silting, lining and embankment works of the canal. He asked the concerned engineers and agencies to complete all the under execution works before the onset of Kharief season and ensure use of quality material and judicious utilization of funds earmarked for the project.
Minister later visited the flood affected areas of Mehra, Indri, Chunjawan , Bukore, Dhanpur and Gujral areas of Akhnoor tehsil and took stock of the losses caused due to recent heavy rains and flood in the area.
Dr. Sharama also inspected the sites where damages have been caused to the embankments, protection bunds, irrigation canals and on-going works. He was informed that many completed and on-going protection and modernization works have been washed away by recent floods in the area besides causing massive land erosion in the area.
He asked the concerned agencies to make immediate assessment of the losses caused to property and protection works in these areas and initiate immediate reconstruction of the works especially irrigation works so that the farmers do not face any eventuality during the commencing kharief season.
The Minister who was accompanied by senior officers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control also interacted with the people in the affected areas and assured them that early measures would be taken to restore the damaged infrastructure in the area.
