| Maha Shradh to be performed at Akhnoor: PK | | | Jammu, Aug.3: In view of threat calls from terror outfits operating in the valley, the Maha Shradh Marg Darshak Mandal of Kashmiri Pandits in Exile has decided to change the venue of the said Shradh of those Pandits, who were killed at the onset and during the militancy in Kashmir and after migration outside the valley due to different causes, from Martand (Mattan) to the banks of Chenab( Chanderbhaga) river at Akhnoor. This was stated here in a press release, issued by Panun Kaashmir. Elaborating upon the importance of the event the release said that about 30,000 KP’ s met their miserable end as a result of killings by militants on various pretexts such as being informers and anti ‘movement’ and also due to suffering in alien climatic conditions, anxiety, sudden exposure to a life-style to which they were not accustomed, snake bites and nostalgia for their soil, socio-cultural milieu and most of the times many lay on the roads, were found in the rivers, and last rituals of many could not performed- mostof the times due to lack of space/a home. And then there was the governmental apathy, the release added. Paying homage to these martyrs and performing their collective rituals, the release added is the sacred duty of every KP and this collective homage was decided, with the consultation of learned men, to be paid at Mattan on Shravana Shukla Duadashi-both auspicious as per shastras. The venue, the release said with grief, had to be shifted due to threat which the organizers received from Harkat ul Jehade Islami (HuJI), which in a letter, threatened of dire consequences, if such a function was held in the Valley. The attacks on pilgrim son 11/7, and lack of commitment of security from the government/Administration forced them to change the venue.According to the release, the MSMD Mandal, decided to perform the function on the banks of Chenab which is no less blessed than Mattan. The resolution, in the end, thanked the people of Jammu for their for their benevolence.
