| Avinish claims Akhil Mahajan Memorial Badminton title | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu August 3 Avinish Gupta outclassed Vikram Saini by 15-9, 6-15 and 15-10 in a breathtaking final to clinch the 2nd Akhil Mahajan Memorial Badminton tournament played at Badminton Hall Indoor Sports Complex here today. Earlier, defending champion Avinsh started off brilliantly with an easy win over Vikram in the first game but Vikram bounced back strongly to take the 2nd game by 6-15 with consummate ese. In the 3rd and final round, Avinish like a seasoned campaigner kept his cool and played outstandingly in the decider to eventually take the game at 15-10. In the veteran’s singles final, Som Raj Gupta defeated Balbir Singh Jamwal by 15-11, 9-15 and 15-13 in a keen contest. In the veteran’s doubles final, the duo of Som Raj and Balbir Jamwal defeated Arun Jain and Khajuria by 15-8, 9-15 and 15-6. Ashok Parmar Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority (JDA) was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed trophies among the winners and runners up. Others who were present on the occasion were Dr. OD Sharma General Secretary J&K Badminton Association and Joint Secretary Indian Badminton Federation, Pardeep Sankhedar General Secretary Jammu City and District Badminton Association, G.D. Magotra Veteran Badminton Player, Krishan Lal Sharma Chief Sports Officer State Sports Council, Ajay Sharma member State Sports Council along with other members of the State Sports Council. All the matches of the tournament were played under the supervision of Balbir Jamwal and Lalita Sharma (SAI Badminton Coach).
