| Workshop on’ women’s role in society’ organized | | | Jammu March 23
The Centre for women studies in collaboration with centre for History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh regions organized one day workshop here today which was inaugurated by Harsh Dev Singh MLA. A galaxy of prominent citizens, eminent educationists, scholars and students attended the workshop.
Problems confronting the woman and their role in the society were discussed at the workshop while, Prof Anita Billawaria highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop and Prof Poonam Dhawan delivered the welcome address..
Dr Nirmal Singh spoke on the ‘prospects of woman in politics and the positive role they can play in making of national cultural and heritage while Dr Shyam Narayan spoke on the politics of patriarchy to show how the women’s contribution has been marginalized.
Dr Suman Jamwal spoke on the images of woman as reflected in the literature of ancient Kashmir while Lalit Gupta made a presentation with the aid of slides highlighting the heritage of Jammu.
The valedictory session was presided over by Smt Neeraj Matoo, eminent educationist while Shewata Sharma conducted the proceedings and Sonia Jasrotia presented vote of thanks.
The chief guest spoke about the revolutionary role which woman have played in Kashmir citing example from historiography .She also elaborated upon how issue of feminism is taken up by historians.
