| Police brochure 'misinforms' citizens | | | Jammu, Aug 3 Notwithstanding the State Cabinet’s order of transfer and posting, maximum top officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police are still occupying the posts which they were holding two month earlier- thanks to official website of Jammu and Kashmir Police. As per the site www.j&kpolice.org, K Rajindra is still heading the Kashmir Police while several DIGs, SSPs and SPs are standstill at the place of their previous posting. Former Deputy Inspector General of Police Satveer Gupta, who was retired from the police services on his attaining age of superannuating on January 31, has been mentioned as DIG Udhampur-Doda range on the site. On browsing directory of www.j&kpolice.org, which is the official website of the State police and is supposed to be updated regularly by the department for providing latest information about the force to citizens across the world, one gets puzzled on finding the names of predecessors instead of incumbents at the senior and important positions. Besides, Director General of Police and two Inspector Generals, the website directory displays the names and addresses of 12 DIGs, 23 SSPs and three SPs of J&K Police. However, except a few, maximum officers have been placed at wrong positions and vice-versa. On the site, V K Singh has been mentioned as DIG of Rajouri-Poonch range while Rajesh Kumar, P R Manhas, Garib Dass and J L Sharma are the SSPs of Udhampur, Doda, Ramban and Reasi, respectively, News Agency of Kashmir learned after browsing the site. Names of SSP Kathua, SSP Poonch, SSP Rajouri, SSP Border, and SP Awantipora are also incorrect. Similarly, the place of posting of several renowned Police officers such as Gulzar Singh Slathia, M.A.Anjum, Sardar Khan etc, is shown wrong. Even as the website has apparently been updated several times since the reshuffle, its directory has been left untouched because of the reasons best known to the persons concerned in the police department. Interestingly, the official site, which provides incorrect information about the persons occupying important posts in the law-enforcing agency, has been titled `Information Brochure of J&K Police’. However, news bulletin on the website has been seemingly updated only yesterday as latest news regarding militancy related incidents appear on it. The site also features articles, newsletter, pressroom, help line and archives of the department for presenting a detailed picture of the J&K Police, which is combating cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir for the last 17 years. |
