Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Commercial Taxes Department has detected 26 cases of tax evasion during the first week of the current month and imposed and realized a penalty and security amount of 8.61 lakhs under various provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir VAT Act 2005 from the defaulters.
Evasion of tax was detected in respect of dealers dealing in plywood, hardware, iron goods, marble, bricks, cement, surgical good, cosmetics, furnishings and scraps,
Ramkesh K. Koul Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes said that during the same period, the Passenger Tax Wing of the Department conducted checking of 200 commercial passenger vehicles and realized a penalty amount to Rs.35000 from the defaulters while documents of 16 vehicles were also seized for non payment of passenger tax, he added.
