| Suspension of Shariq creates pandemonium in Assembly | | NC stalls proceedings; Speaker adjourns house for full day | | Srinagar, Aug 03 : Speaker Legislative Assembly Tara Chand adjourned the House after opposition National Conference members stalled the proceedings over suspension of Sharif-u-Din Sahriq who was suspended for the remaining session by the speaker yesterday for obstructing business of the lower house. Soon after the House met for today, NC members, led by opposition leader Abdul Rahim Rather started raising slogans demanding revocation of suspension of their party colleague. Speaker made repeated attempts to restore order but NC members continue their protest. Amid the uproar and slogan raising by the opposition members, the speaker asked Rahim rather to clear the point of his party. Opposition Leader Abdul Rahim Rather alleged that suspension of his party colleague is against the rules of business conduct. He said under rule 411 provides that speaker shall name the member at least once before he takes any action against him for obstructing the Business proceedings. He said, however this rule was not followed in the present case as at the time of suspension of Shariq as he was not present in the House. He said it was the members from the treasury benches who were disrupting the proceedings when the house met again after the adjournment and instead of taking action against them, Shariq was suspended. On the other hand Panther’s Party MLA Harsh Dev, while defending the suspension of Shariq said that the Speaker repeatedly asked him not obstruct the proceedings, but he continued to ‘abuse members of the ruling party and government’ adding that his suspension was quite as per the rules. After Harsh Dev and Rahim Rather finished their speeches, NC members indulged in word dual with Sartaj Madni, Peer Mohammad Hussain and other ruling coalition partner members creating an uproar following which Speaker adjourned the House for ten Minutes. When the house met again, NC members resumed their protest demanding the revocation of the suspension of Shariq forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for full day. Later speaking to media men, Rahim Rather said that they would not allow the business proceedings unless the suspension order of Shariq was evoked. |
