| Mufti may get lollipops instead of cake from centre | | | Jammu, March 23 As a result of fresh dialogue by various senior functionaries in Delhi with Mufti Mohd Sayeed, the PDP patron may get some lollipops instead of a cream cake for motivating him to keep the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir intact. Reports from Delhi indicated that the Water Resources Minister, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, who has been in the forefront of those Congress leaders who favour ties with the PDP to continue, has remained busy in persuading the Prime Minister and others, who matter in the centre, to soften their stand on the issues raised by the Mufti in the interest of the state and the country. Indications are that once the Mufti succeeded in extracting even minor concessions the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of the PDP, slated to be held in Srinagar on March 25,may be postponed. Reports said that in case the Mufti was forced to return to Srinagar empty handed the party’s Political Affairs Committee members may be forced to either snap ties with the Congress or lend outside support to the Azad led Government. The Mufti would have relented but his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, who heads the organization continues to be adamant. Her candid and uncouth stance have already earned her a nickname of Mayavati,a former Chief Minister of Uattar Pradesh. Her detractors call her Mayavati because of her rugged attitude towards partymen and her critics.During second round of talks the Mufti was told in clear ter that demilitarization,at this juncture, was not possible as it could escalate the level of violence allowing an opportunity to anti-Congress forces in those states, where the poll is round the corner, to paint the congress in black colours. While a section of senior Congress functionaries in Delhi favour steps which could ensure survival of the PDP-Congress coalition,Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad,is said to have adopted very tough postures. He is ready to snap ties with the PDP as he see to be confident to prove the majority on the floor of the Assembly which could be possible once the National Conference MLAs remained absent on the day of the floor test. Reports said that he is unhappy even with some of the union ministers who have been pleading for keep the ties with the PDP intact. One thing is certain that even if the Mufti relented after receiving some lollipos and a bucket of assurances the PDP-Congress ties in the state may remain tense.
