| Mufti rejects Center’s offer, talks continue for 2nd day | | PDP likely to postpone political affairs committee meeting | | Jammu, Mar 18 While Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s parleys with centre entered second day with second round of talks today held with National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, People’s Democratic Party is likely to postpone its crucial political affairs committee meeting scheduled for Sunday. Mufti, who yesterday met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, had told reporters that he has been able to buy some time during his forty five minute of meeting for more talks on his parties demand for reduction of troops and revocation of infamous Armed Forces Act. Though yesterday’s meeting of Mufti Sayeed could not break much ice over his unrelenting stand of early reduction of troops, instead of a mere ‘window dressing’ as he told reporters soon after reaching Delhi., the former chief minister of the state was all together in a different mood despite the fact that PM did not conceded his party’s demand. He however had said that “He has agreed to continue the discussion on the issue”. If sources, close to PDP Patron, are to be believed Mufti had been offered to start with vacating of orchards community land, private and government buildings presently in army’s use, besides constituting a committee for considering other demands including reduction of troops from the state. However, Mufti who had already said that, his party would not agree on ‘window dressing’ did not agree and instead opted for further discussion with the interlocutors appointed by PM including Naryanan Highly placed sources in the party told News Agency of Kashmir that Sayeed today met National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, who has also reportedly offered to constitute a committee to report on the demand. “The two held detailed discussion over the matter in view of the talks held with PM”, sources said adding, “The PDP Chief Patron is likely to meet Dr Manmohan Singh again next week”. Prime minister had invited Mufti for one to one talks at the time when rumors were rife that Peoples Democratic Party would soon pull out from the coalition government after it locked horns with congress over the demilitarization. Meanwhile, sources said, PDP is likely to postpone the scheduled Political Affairs Meeting on Sunday. “The meeting was fixed to discuss the outcome of talks with Prime Minister but as the process remains inconclusive and Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is still camping in Delhi the meeting is likely to be postponed”, a senior party leader said, on the condition of anonymity. |
