| NH thrown open for one way traffic, claim 16 lives in 40 days | | Widening work to continue side by side: Beacon | | Jammu, Mar 23 While Jammu-Srinagar highway was thrown open today for one way traffic after about two weeks, Beacon authorities have decided to continue the widening work at various trouble spots, particularly at Panthihal. Authorities told News Agency of Kashmir that over 25, 00 stranded vehicles have been allowed to move for their onward journey to Srinagar; besides trucks carrying essential supplies especially fresh vegetables have also been dispatched for the Kashmir Valley. Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that National Highway was thrown open today evening at 4 PM. More than 2500 load carriers were allowed to cross the trouble spot Panthihal after it was partially cleared today. It is pertinent to mention here that NH which remains closed for about forty days during last three months claimed more than 16 lives in five separate mishaps during this period at Kilometer 168.5 the most trouble spot of Panthihal. The inclement weather conditions with heavy rain and slow fall had been cause of continuous land slides all along the artillery road stretch from Ramban to Banihal, “ It took us thirteen hectic days to stabilize the irritating point of Panthihal” said Chief Engineer Border Road Organization told News Agency of Kashmir adding “ While highway has been thrown open today for one way traffic, it has been decided to continue the widening work at various trouble spots, particularly at Panthihal
