Azad reviews arrangements for 3-day mega Jammu festival

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad reviewed arrangements made for 3-day mega Jammu Festival being organised from April 13 to 15, at a high level meeting held here today.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports Babu Singh, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, Minister of State for Higher Education Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for School Education Manjit Singh, Principal Secretary Planning and Development S. S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Anil Goswami, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pramod Jain, Commissioner/Secretary Finance B. B. Vyas, Commissioner/Secretary Industries Lokesh Jha, Secretary Tourism Naeem Akhtar, Secretary Education K. M. Wani, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Dr. S. P. Vaid, Director Industries and Commerce Jeet Lal Gupta, Director Colleges Dr. N. D. Wani, Director Tourism Jammu Ajay Khajuria, renowned theatrist Balwant Thakur, heads of departments, chief engineers of various engineering disciplines and other senior officers attended the meeting.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pramod Jain is heading the steering committee for the festival.
Chief Minister was apprised about the mega procession comprising of all ethnic, cultural and social groups of all the regions of the state which will start from Satwari Chowk and conclude at M. A. Stadium on April 12 where police department will organize motor bike dare devil show.
The major highlights planned for the 3-day Jammu festival include multi-arts mega performances at Mini Stadium Parade, nukad shows, hassaya kavi performance, puppetry, geetru, street shows and performances by folk musicians at Rajinder Park, Shaheedi Chowk, Rani Park, Raghunath Mandir Chowk, Jewel Chowk and Gole Market, Gandhinagar, handlooms and handicrafts exhibition at Jammu Haat, arts and crafts exhibition and national festival of classical music and dance at Kala Kendra besides national theatre festival.
Other highlights of the programme include lighting of Mubarak Mandi complex as well as putting up ethnic food stalls, sound and light programme at Bahu Fort, helicopter joyrides, motor cycle show, rural sports, cycle polo and kite flying followed by grand closing ceremony with spectacular fire works at Parade Ground on April 15.
Azad advised that legislators, corporators, public representatives, NGOs, social and other organizations should be associated with the festival and different days of the festival earmarked for showcasing composite and glorious cultural heritage of various areas of the state.
Chief Minister emphasised that all roads, lanes, bye-lanes and drains be kept clean and the entire city should give a festive look during the festival days.
It was decided in the meeting that big names in the field of art, culture and theatre from across the country will be associated with this mega event to attract more and more tourists and locals.
