Mangat for mass awareness to check TB
Distributes scholarships among students

JAMMU, March 24
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma has stressed for launching intensive mass awareness campaign to educate people about preventive and protective measures available to check and control TB.
He said a conference comprising Medicos, social workers, NGOs and prominent persons should be formulated in this regard to initiate a comprehensive Tuberculoses campaign in the state.
He was addressing a function organized to observe World TB Day here today.
Director Health Services Dr. Jasbir Singh, Executive Director AIDS Dr. N. A. Wani and Chairman Trikuta Educational Trust Dr. Roop Lal Sharma were also present.
Sharma said that some dreaded diseases are cropping up owing to population, contamination of water bodies, unhygienic conditions and unawareness about the spread of diseases. “We have to collectively address this problem and create mass awareness”. He said government’s efforts in this regard could be successful when volunteers’ organizations people in general and youth particularly involve themselves in awareness campaign against such diseases.
He appreciated efforts of the management of Trikuta Educational Trust for imparting latest, scientific and job-oriented education to the students through various educational institutions of the Trust. He also distributed prizes among the students who presented skits based on TB control and its treatment and read out papers on the topic “TB anywhere is TB everywhere”.
Dr. Jasbir Singh and Dr. Wani also delivered informative lecture on the topic and asked the audience especially the students to educate people about the repercussions of this disease and motivate them to get regular treatment in case any symptoms of persistent cough, low grade fever, pain in chest, loss of weight, loss of appetite, fatigue and weakness or blood sputum erupts.
