| Govt contemplates construction of Bal Ashrams in State | | | Srinagar, March 24 The government is contemplating to construct Bal Ashrams equipped with all facilities for orphan and destitute community in the State. This was stated by minister for Social Welfare, Haji Nisar Ahmed while conducting inspection of orphanage at Shalimar here today. He said a comprehensive plan would be formulated shortly for which a team is being constituted. He said all facilities including preliminary education, accommodation and computers would be made available for the inmates in these Bal Ashrams. The minister accompanied by Director Social Welfare Ms Dilshada Khan District Social Welfare officer Srinagar besides other officers were informed that 34 orphan boys and 20 girls are presently being provided lodging and boarding facility in these two Bal Ashrams which annually involve an expenditure of Rs 4.86 lakh. During the course of inspection, Haji Nisar interacted with the orphan and enquired about the facilities being provided to them. He was told that Rs 9000 are yearly being spent in the maintenance and up keep of each orphan which is insufficient. On the occasion, the minister directed the officers to submit a fresh proposal recommending enhancing of daily expenditure to Rs 50 from the present Rs 25 being incurred on each orphan daily in the Ashram so that approval is accorded.
