| Rabi crop in Jammu region suffer huge damage | | R S Pura farmers demand relief on Punjab pattern | | R S Pura Mar 21 As the recent hailstorm has badly damaged standing Rabi crop in Jammu region farmers of sates’ agriculture bastion, RS Pura have demanded relief on Punjab Pattern to compensate their losses. The Punjab Government has announced Rs five thousand per acre as compensation to the farmers for the loss of their crops. The standing wheat crops in R S Pura area which is the main stay of state’s agriculture production have suffered huge damage following the recent hailstorm and incessant rains. The farmers of the area are urging the government to come to their rescue at this time of distress by providing them adequate relief to enable them to sow their lands for kherief crops. “We have been totally ruined by the unusual rainfalls and it is very difficult for us to carry on the agriculture activities during the coming months, said a local farmer Sita Ram while talking to News Agency of Kashmir. “Farmers of R S Pura have fed the state by cultivating their lands even at the risk of their lives during cross border shelling” said president Kissan Association Forum Dev Raj adding “it is now the turn of Government to feed our children as we have lost every thing to the disaster which stuck the area in the form of rains and hailstorm.” He said the wheat fields which would have been ready for harvest in the next month are filled with two feet of water, not to say of those located along the irrigation canals and streams. The farmers are demanding compensation as announced by the Punjab Government. |
