| Two day programme on propagation and nursery management held | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | March 24 Pomology Division, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized two days training program on recent advances made by the University in propagation of different sub-tropical fruits and the management of fruit nurseries on scientific lines. 24 field-functionaries from the state department of Horticulture, Jammu, participated in the programme. The focus of the training programme was to generate awareness amongst the field functionaries of the state department of Horticulture, Jammu as well as to step up the preparedness for production and supply of quality planting material especially fruit industry is getting full impetus from the Horticulture Technology Mission in the State. Dr Ravi Kher, on this occasion impressed upon the participants to ensure that the planting material to be supplied through the nurseries in the state forms the foundation of Horticulture development as a whole and for the Jammu region in particular. Dr. V.K. Wali apprised the participants about the newly developed and efficient techniques of plant propagation techniques as well as applications of plant growth regulators, use of shade nets, hi-tech greenhouses, propagation units etc for production of quality planting material was also explained to them. Dr. Mahital Jamwal gave a elaborative demonstration on the tissue culture techniques (micro-propagation) for the rapid production of disease free planting material of fruit crops. The participants were given a comprehensive training for perfection. Dr. Jamwal proposed a vote of thanks to the participants for a successful training.
