| Indo-US nuke deal will give access to crucial tech: Chauhan | | | Ajmer, Aug 04: The conclusion of the Indo-US nuclear deal will give the country access to technology and equipment to set up many nuclear power plants, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chauhan said today.
Talking to reporters here after offering a chadar on behalf of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Dargah of Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chisti here, Chauhan said there would soon be a detailed discussion on the nuclear deal in Parliament.
"Something conclusive" would emerge before the end of the ongoing session of Parliament, he said.
Two nuclear power projects in Rajasthan would be completed by 2008 and more such plants could be set up in the state. The government has not gone ahead with plans for more atomic plants in Rajasthan only due to the lack of nuclear fuel, he said.
Chauhan said fresh reports about the presence of high levels of pesticides in soft drinks were a matter of "serious concern" as a joint parliamentary committee had studied this issue and submitted a report in 2004. This report had been prepared after extensive consultations with the manufacturers of soft drinks and environmental and health experts, he said.
Norms have been finalised for the manufacture of soft drinks under the Bureau of Industrial Standards, he said.
Referring to POTA, he said the anti-terror law had been repealed because thousands of people had been detained under it but no evidence was found against them. He hinted that "some forces" opposed to India's rapid economic growth were behind terrorist attacks in the country, but steps had been taken to counter them.
