Excessive workload in GMC leads to frequent scuffle
3/25/2007 11:15:15 PM
Jammu | Mar 25
The increasing incidents of clash between the attendants of patients and the hospital staff of the Government Medical College (GMC) and their subsequent suspension of work have been causing great inconvenience to under treatment patients. As they use to suffer the most under these circumstances. Whereas, health officials are openly admitted the fact that shortage of staff and excess of load was the main reason behind all such kinds of incidents.
It is to mention that GMC is facing the acute shortage of staff from the past some time. In total GMC has 20 wards and all of them were under staffed. The under staffing has resulted into the incidents of clashes between attendants and the hospital staff and the under treatment patients bear the brunt of the situation as their attendants have to manage each and every thing for them at their own during of suspension of work by Hospital staff.
Talking to “Early Times” Deputy Superintendent GMC admitted that shortage of staff is the main cause behind all such incidents. The people need to know about our compulsions so that the entire functioning in the hospital could be made smooth.
Meanwhile, it has been witnessed that attendants used to bring their ailing relatives in Emergency Wing of GMC only in serious condition prior to which they prefer to provide treatment at their homes. Later on when these serious patients succumb in GMC attendants shift the entire blame on the hospital staff which virtually turns into a clash.
It has been also witnessed that attendants very often used to clash with hospital staff to get treatment for their patient on priority basis, though not in serious condition. According to report, government has been made aware about the shortage of staff but nothing concrete has been done so far. Expressing his views, renowned Psychiatrist Dr Chander Mohan said that in this fast pace life each individual is suffering from some sort of tension and these incidents are outcome of this problem. The population in the state has increased manifolds during the past few decades resulting into tremendous increase in patients. On the opposite, hospitals have been facing acute shortage of staff. The attendants of the patients use to carry a lot of tension along with them which they burst out on the hospital staff in case of any minor exchange of words, he added.
