| Making J&K a role model state is my sole mission: Azad | | ‘I believe in honest politics, abhor deceitful tactics’ | | SRINAGAR, MARCH 25 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Sunday that his only mission as CM is to rebuild Jammu and Kashmir fast and seek peace and prosperity for the people. Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Langate, Mr. Azad said that the sole target fixed by him is bring back lost glory of Jammu and Kashmir, make it a role model state in every field of development and create peace for faster economic growth. “I believe in honest politics and abhor deceitful tactics to lure voters”, he said. He said peace process initiated by UPA government is moving in right direction and hailed role of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for the peace and development initiatives. Mr. Azad said soon he took over as Chief Minister his first step was to wage the war against corruption and remove stigma of second corrupt state given to Jammu and Kashmir. For the purpose, anti-corruption laws were strengthened by legislations and provide for stringent actions including confiscating ill-gotten property of corrupt government functionaries. He lauded the general public and media, both print and electronic, for extending him full support in the drive to clean administration from corrupt elements and check malpractices at all levels. Chief Minister said that gigantic road construction programme under Bharat Nirman and Rs. 24,000 crore Prime Minister’s reconstruction plan for infrastructure development are certain to transform the state’s development scenario and opening new vistas for economic progress and employment generation. Mr. Azad said state at present is under a significant phase of all round development and historic decisions are being taken in the interest of public to catapult development in every area. Chief Minister said that special thrust is on development of rural and far-off backward areas and ensure balanced development of all the three regions. Chief Minister said that recently enacted Roshni scheme is yet another farmers’ friendly step which envisages conferring of ownership rights on 17 lakh kanals of state land to the farmers free of cost. Chief Minister said that government is also concentrating on expanding the orbit of employment generation in the state. Besides normal recruitment process, contractual appointment process in various important sectors has been set in place. Referring to the 8th October earthquake that claimed precious human lives and damaged properties and infrastructure, Chief Minister showered praises on central UPA leadership for providing unprecedented relief package to the state for earthquake survivors and rehabilitating them properly and in a befitting manner. Chief Minister also referred to the stupendous service rendered by Air Force and Army in rescue, relief and rehabilitation strategies, and praised men in uniform for sincere and high quality public service. Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz announced 52 bore-wells for Baramulla and Kupwara districts to augment irrigation facilities in these districts. He asked the people to be actively involved in huge development process initiated in Jammu and Kashmir. He said peace process is shaping well and will continue to achieve permanent peace. Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed hailed central leadership and Mr. Azad for massive infrastructure raising and development programmes launched in the state. He referred to creation of eight new districts and other administrative units, enactment of Roshni Act, opening up of education institutions and hospitals and launching of massive road connectivity schemes, saying that these would give considerable fillip to development in every area. He said establishment of five working groups, opening of Poonch-Rawalakote and Srinagar-Muzaffarabad routes are important CBMs in the peace process. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad, IGP Kashmir Zone Mr. S. M. Sahai, political activists Mr. M. A. Khan, Mr. Abdul Gani Mir and Mr. G. N. Monga were present on the occasion.
