Inter-battalion sports meet from 26th March

JAMMU, MARCH 25
Inter-battalion armed police tournament for men and women is being organized at Gulshan Ground here from 26th instant to provide yet another opportunity to police sports personnel exhibit talent and excel in the field.
Giving details of the tournament at media conference here Sunday, IG Armed Police Sheikh Owais Ahmad said that the tournament scheduled to be inaugurated by ADG Armed Mr. P. S. Gill would run from 26th of March to 31st.
The main events would be in volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war, wrestling, boxing, archery, kabaddi, kho kho, handball and athletics while as the football and hockey will form special interest for sports lovers.
Mr. Owais told pressmen that other attractions of the tournament will be badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and shooting.
The main venue for the football will be Gulshan Gound, hockey matches at university ground, kabaddi, handball and kho kho at district police lines and badminton at police indoor stadium while as most of other events would take place at Gulshan Ground.
Mr. Owais on the occasion also gave details of the growth and functioning of armed police and said that the JKAP strength has risen to 25 battalions at present.
He lauded the role of Director General of Police Mr. Gopal Sharma and ADG Armed Mr. P. S. Gill for taking keen interest in building sports talent in the police personnel and providing ample room for propagation of sports related activities in the police department.
He expressed hope that media, both print and electronic, like other sports events would give due coverage to the tournament.
Present on the occasion among others were DIG Armed Range Jammu Mr. Gulzar Singh Slathia, Commandants of IRP 3rd and 11th battalions, Commandant of 4th security battalion and deputy commandants of various battalions, Dy. SP Ranjit Singh and Dy. SP Sports Mr. Faisal Qureshi.
