| Water Sports centre being revived to promote tourism: Dilawar | | | Srinagar, March 25 As a sequel to tourism promotion measures, the water sports centre at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC) is being revived at a cost of Rs. 1 crore and would be made functional by the end of April this year. Para-sailing, Kayaking, canoeing and water skiing would be the main attractions for the tourists for which all the required equipment and infrastructure like water boats, rafts, life jackets and while water kayaks and canoes have been kept ready stocked in the water sports centre. This was stated by the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir during inspection of the water sports centre, Srinagar yesterday. The Minister was accompanied by the Director Tourism Mr. Farooq Ahmed Shah and concerned officers. The Minister said such activities shall also be started at world famous Manasbal Lake also. He directed the Director Tourism for immediate face-lifting, landscaping and fencing of the centre alongwith repairs of the parfait wall on the bank of Dal Lake to enable the movement of boats without any hurdle up to the existing store of the centre. He also directed that the gate opposite to Royal Springs Golf Course be used as entrance gate for convenience of the tourists. Earlier, the Minister took a meeting with the prominent members of Travel and Trade Kashmir and discussed various tourism promotion measure in the state. The Members urged for improving hassle free transport and air travel facilities to the visitors besides giving a face-lift to various tourists destinations. They also urged for improving basic amenities at tourist places. The Minister enjoined upon the representatives of Travel and Trade to offer attractive incentives and tourism packages for attracting tourists in bulk numbers to the state. He urged for showing greater hospitality with the tourists adding that strict action would be taken against unscrupulous elements to cheat our guests. The Minister said that government have launched a sustained campaign to exploit tourism potential in middle-east and far-east as well. Those who attended the meeting included prominent travel agent, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Bakshi, President Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA) Mr. Habib-ullah, Chairman, House Boat Owners Association, Mr. Tuman Shah, Chairman TAAI Mr. Bashir Ahmed and representatives of Travel and Trade Kashmir.
