| No judge found yet for Kashmir fake killings probe | | | Srinagar | Mar 26 No judge has yet been found by the Jammu and Kashmir government to head a probe into the alleged staged killings by security forces in the state almost seven weeks after a judicial inquiry was announced. A request by the state government to the high court to spare a sitting judge to head the probe commission has been declined because of a Supreme Court ruling that a sitting judge cannot head such inquiry commissions, according to official sources. Now, search is on for a retired judge of the state high court to probe the killings, which have shaken the state. Kashmir Valley had witnessed daily street protests for weeks demanding a probe into the people who had gone missing. Police investigations brought to light the killing of civilians in fake encounters. Five such cases are being probed. The police had exhumed the bodies of five victims for DNA tests. The tests on three confirmed that they were of civilians who were allegedly killed in staged encounters by police personnel and passed off as militants. Some police officials, including senior superintendent of police Hans Raj Parihar and deputy superintendent of police Bhadhur Ram, have been arrested for the crime. They have been charge sheeted in a Srinagar court and their trial has begun.
