Dogri play “Suno Eh Kahani” staged

Natrang’s Dogri play “Suno Eh Kahani” written and directed by Balwant thakur was staged here today on the eve of ‘World Theatre Day’. Natrang, which started the celebrations of World Theatre Day in the year 1983 and has been celebrating this day regularly.
This year’s progammes include performances and a talk on the topic ‘It’s the time of theatre’, which will be organized tomorrow at Natrang Studio theatre.
While speaking about the performance of ‘Sunoh Eh Kahani’, Balwant Thakur said that Natrang chose to perform a Dogri play on the eve of world theatre for the reason that Dogri theatre has found a place at the international level because of its creative and innovative strength.
The plays like Bawa Jitto, Ghumayee and Mahabhoji has created history of Jammu and have established Jammu as ultimate destination of theatre, he said.
As per the press release, ‘GUDDI’ the central character of this play is representative of a major section of rural lower middle class adolescent young girls, who are forced into matrimony at a very tender age. Guddi is fully aware of the strains of early marriage, as it has taken its toll in untimely death of her mother.
She wants to grow and get educated before she takes up the responsibility of married. She wants to grow and get educated before she takes up the responsibility of married life. Her dreams are shattered, a ‘suitable’ groom is found and marriage date is fixed. While the marriage ceremonies are being performed, held comes in the form of intervention by legal authorities and decision of marriage is deferred for appropriate time. The play highlights the plight of young girls who are sacrificed at the altar of rotten, redundant customs of illiterate and ignorant sections of our society.
The actors who participated in today’s play included Mohit Sharma, and Pankush Verma, Dimple Sharma, Kamaljeet Kour, Pawan Verma, Rohit verma, Gourav Jamwal, Sahil Arora, Ankush Lakhnotra, Mayank Bakshi, Rahul Singh, Parveen Kumar and Saurav Kapoor.
