Srinagar city to get additional water supply from Rangil: Azad
With commissioning of one crore gallon plant the capacity of Rangil will increase to 3 crore gallons

Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad today personally inspected Rangil Water Plant. He was accompanied by Minister for Hajj, Auqaf and Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir.
The Chief Minister had fixed last year the target for immediate commissioning of Water Plant Rangil having capacity of providing of one crore gallons (10 MGD) water exclusively to Bemina, Qamerwari, Tengpora, Khumeni Chowk, Shalteng, Batmaloo, Lawaypora, Malroo, Mujgund and other areas.
The Chief Minister who had visited several times Shehri-Khaas and other parts of Srinagar city last year was complained of scarcity of water. Accordingly, the existing Rangil Water Plant of two crore gallon capacity was earmarked for Srinagar city exclusively. Earlier, on this water plant there was load of different peripheries which will get eliminated with commissioning of the new plant.
The demonstration of trial run of new one crore gallon water plant which is being made with funding of Asian Development Bank (ADB) by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) was successfully made before the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction that ERA has been able to fulfill the promise made by him to people of Srinagar city of supply of adequate water during this summer. The major areas which will get additional water supply with the commissioning of new water plant include Ellahi Bagh, Nowshera, Rajouri Kadal, Khanyar, Lal Bazaar, Habba Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Karan Nagar and all adjoining areas. Trail run of the water plant will continue for some more days and concerned department has intensified its efforts to lay the supply lines.
The Chief Minister directed that no time should be wasted in laying of supply lines and with improvement of weather even work should be executed in triple shifts wherever possible so that people of Srinagar city and Shehri-Khaas, which is facing scarcity of water for last several years are able to get relief.
