| Gill inaugurates Police ‘Sports Meet | | Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Athletics marked the day | | Jammu, March 26
Inter Battalion sports meet of Armed Police was inaugurated today at Gulshan Ground police Stadium by Additional Director General of Police P.S. Gill. A colorful march past and oath ceremony marked opening, by 18 sports contingents of armed police, witnessed by hundreds of armed police and by hundreds of spectators. On the occasion P.S. Gill lauded the performance of police sports persons for their respective sports. He stressed upon all police personnel involved in sports to work hard and bring laurels to the Police department at national and international levels.
In his welcome address DIG armed police Jammu Gulzar Singh Slathia commended the role of chief patron Director General of Police Gopal Sharma and Additional Director General of Police Armed P. S. Gill for their motivation and encouragement to young sports persons of J&K police, leading them to good performances at national/international level. Giving details of medallists he said that in boxing all India police meet at Jalandhar boxing team won 4 bronze medals and one in national games at Guwahati. Similarly in Wushu, fencing, kabadi, volleyball, aquatic, one gold, two silver medals and three bronze medals were bagged by J&K police.
P. S. Gill declared 16th inter-battalion sports meet of 2007 open by releasing pigeons in the sky.
Among others who attended the function were IGP CID K. Rajinder Kumar, IGP Owais, Armed, Commandants, Deputy Commandants and Dy. SPs of JKAP and IRP Battalions including senior officers of Home guards and CID.
In Basketball JKAP 7th Bn beat IRP 2nd Bn, IRP 4th beat JKAP 13Bn, JKAP 8th Bn, beat IRP 3rd Bn.
In Volleyball IRP7th Bn beat JKAP 9th Bn, IRP 6th BN beat IRP 2nd Bn, IRP 1st Bn, beat JKAP 8th Bn.
In football tournament JKAP 5th Bn beat JKAP 13th Bn, IRP 3rd Bn beat JKAP 14th Bn, IRP 8th Bn beat JKAP 6th Bn.
Similarly, in Athletics shot Men final Inspector Mohammad Saddiq of JKAP 8th Bn. Get Ist position in 10.53 metre, Ct. Rajinder Thapa IRP 3rd gets 2nd in 09.41 metre and Sget. Vijay Kumar AP8th gets 3rd position in 9.16 metre.
