Students, teachers take out awareness rally
‘Focus on achieving cent per literacy in J&K’

AKHNOOR, March 26
Students from various educational institutions organized awareness march at Paragwal to highlight the significance of literacy. The march was organized as a part of activities held under the banner of Sarav Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA). Naib Tehsildar Paragwal Rattan Singh Manhas, who was chief guest on this occasion, flagged off the rally from Government Boys Middle school Paragwal and passing through different lanes and mohallas culminated at MS Paragwal.
Holding placards, posters and banners in their hands, in which the importance of education was highlighted, the campaigners were raising slogans in favour of literacy for all. The local people of the area including members of different school level committees also joined the march and highly appreciated the SSA for organizing such fruitful activity.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the speakers threw light on the mission of SSA and informed that these activities are organized to aware people to send their wards to schools so that the illiteracy could be eradicated from the Indian society. They also informed that these types of the programs are organized all over India and in near future more such awareness activities would be organized with larger participation.
Earlier, similar rallies were also taken out in 24 villages of Paragwal area by the respective schools. Locals have appreciated this effort of the SSA and expressed optimism that proper awareness would help increase enrolment in government. “This is for the first time that we are witnessing such type of rally in our village”, expressed an elderly villager.
The rally was taken out under the supervision of Phhola Koul Zonal Education Officer Zone Jourian.
Informing about purpose of rally, ZEO Phoola Koul informed that the rally is aimed to enroll all drop outs so that the target of 100 percent literacy could be achieved and made a fervent appeal to the villagers to co-ordinate with the department for achieving the goal of cent per cent literacy.
Similar rallies were also taken out by different schools under zone Jourian.
Prominent among those who were present included Thoru Ram Sharma, Ratan Bali, Sukhdev Raj, Tirth Ram, Bari Ram, Vinay Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Jagdish Singh, Sudershan Kumari, Madhu, Darshan Singh, Parshotam Singh, Gagan Mishra and Tilak Raj Sharma .
