Government encouraging honest, committed NGOs: Mangat
Haji seeks support of NGOs in popularizing SW schemes

Jammu, March 27
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has called upon Non-Governmental Organizations to supplement the efforts of government for effective implementation of programmes and policies aimed at socio-economic development of the state.
Minister was speaking at the inaugural session of 2-day seminar on state level capacity building workshop for NGO’s/Community Based Organizations held here today. The seminar was organized by ‘Save Children UK’ in collaboration with Women’s Welfare Society.
Representatives of seventy NGO’s from all over the state are participating in the 2- day workshop in which Save the Children from UK is focusing on right based programme and project design and development.
Mr. Sharma said that NGO’s are doing noble job by educating the common masses about various government schemes, helping in peculating the benefits throughout the state. He said that this workshop will help to broaden their field knowledge necessary for executing their activities in different sectors effectively. He said a number of schemes aimed at ameliorating the socio-economic conditions of the people are run with the help of NGOs and it becomes there duty to take benefit of these schemes to every common man.
In view of the role of ‘Save children’ organization during the last year’s earthquake in Poonch District, he assured all possible assistance of the government in successful implementation of its programmes in the state. Mr. Sharma said that government will extend all possible help to mitigate the problem of NGOs and asked them to come up with a comprehensive proposal in this regard.
Social Welfare Minister, Haji Nissar said that NGOs sacrifice personal interest and work for the cause of needy and poor section of the society. He said several welfare schemas launched by social welfare Department need to be propagated and implemented through NGOs for which the government extends all possible help. Social Welfare Department has constituted a committee to review and implement such schemes in consultation with NGOs for which six monthly meetings would be convened both at Jammu and Kashmir division, he added.
Haji said as many as 25000 Anganwari Centres are expected to start functioning in the state in the near future and about nutrition work Rs 100 crore is required to be purchased for which NGOs can play an important role in procurement and supply of quality nutrition to meet the demand.
He extended full support for equipping NGOs in successful implementation of social welfare schemes so that benefits of these percolate to ground level.
Earlier, head of the Organization, Save the Children Mr. Kashi Nath Bhoosnurmath while giving details of the activities apprised that organizations separate for one district of Kashmir and two districts of Jammu province are working in various fields like awareness, education, formation of village committees for village development, training to teachers on child friendly education, training to adolescent girls on life skill, support given to schools and ICDS centres, training to AWW and teachers etc.
