| Media persons thrashed at Baramulla, boycot army function | | | Baramulla, Mar 27
Army personnel of 46 RR headed by Major Parveen Douby harassed a team of journalist and misbehaved with them when they were on way to Uri to cover an army function being held at Uri. All journalists on board in four Sumos boycotted the function and returned in protest from Baramulla.
A journalist associated with national TV Shara News said, “Army personnel and Major Parveen frisked and sought identity of the journalist when we told him that we were with public relation officer (PRO) Defense Col. Mathur.
We were let off but as we reached Baramulla main town army personnel on road patrolling stopped us and asked to get down as they had received a message not to let the journalists move forward.
PRO defense who was informed about the incident despite his intervention the troops didn't allow the journalists to move.
Meanwhile all journalist called their all other colleagues and moved back from Baramulla to mark a protest against army.
The journalists alleged that army personnel used abusive language and misbehaved with them. It is pertinent to mention here that this has not happened for the first time.
Journalists of Srinagar and Baramulla have decided to boycott the forthcoming functions of army also. |
