Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12 : Police claimed to have cracked the blind murder mystery of a woman which occurred in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gangyal on January 9. Police spokesman said that the accused in this case was a close relative (maternal grandson) of the deceased and claimed that theft was the motive of the crime-though efforts are on to unearth other motives. According to spokesman, on Januray 9, Police Station Gangyal received information that a woman, namely, Basanti Devi widow of Mangat Ram of Tantna Doda (at present Lower Ratnu Chak Gangyal) was found murdered in her house. Police parties rushed to the spot and found that the deceased was lying in a pool of blood and her throat had been slit. "The belongings in the house were found scattered and (as informed by her son) some cash and articles such as her 'mangalsutra' were found missing. After committing the murder, the accused had fled after locking the house from the outside, taking with him the key. Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 05/2014 under sections 302, 449 and 380 of RPC was registered at Gangyal police station and investigation was started", added spokesman. He further said that during investigation some suspects including the deceased's maternal grandson, namely, Sanjay Raina alias Sanju, were put to questioning. During the questioning Sanjay Raina, who lives near the house of the deceased along with his parents, confessed to his involvement in the crime. The weapon of offence (domestic knife), which appears to have blood stains, the key of the deceased's house and the stolen 'mangalsutra' have been recovered at the behest of the accused person. Meanwhile, police claimed to have solved blind murder cases that have occurred in the recent past. Spokesman said that on January 5, a young woman, namely, Praveena Bibi wife of Salim Mohammed of Kandi, Akhnoor was murdered near her parental home at Kotli Tanda, Akhnoor. The young lady had been staying at her parental home for the past one and half years. Her body was recovered from bushes near her parental home. Suspecting it to be a case of unnatural death, Akhnoor police began proceedings under section 174 CrPC. "During the course of the inquest proceedings it came to light that the deceased had in fact been murdered by way of strangulation and accordingly a case FIR No. 08/2014 under section 302 of RPC was registered at Police Station Akhnoor on January 12", said spokesman adding that one Sadiq Mohammed alias Shitu of Tanda, Akhnoor who is a cousin of the deceased, confessed to his involvement in the murder and subsequently the deceased's cell phone and her SIM card were recovered at his behest. These two articles had been missing from the possession of the deceased when her body was discovered. As per the investigations so far, the motive of the accused appears to have been his anger over his cousin's illicit relationship. |
