| PDP likely to gain from growing NC-Congress rift | | | Et Report Jammu, Jan 12 : The main opposition, PDP, is set to gain from the growing conflict between the Congress and the National Conference, that have been sharing power in Jammu and Kashmir for the last over five years, according to political observers. The Congress and the NC were not on the same page as far as the former's demand for empowering Panchayats by incorporating 73rd amendment to the Act, is concerned and now the two have drawn swords over the latter's plan on setting up new administrative units in the state. Party sources said that it has been under sever e pressure from the Congress that the NC leadership has agreed to set up a new committee for recommending measures for setting up new administrative units.Senior Congress leaders said that the PDP may gain advantage in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from the increased conflict between the NC and the Congress. The first gain would be in the shape of reopening of alliance avenues between the Congress and the PDP. In case the next Assembly poll threw up a hung House the PDP can seek support from the Congress for forming the Government. The Congress would be glad to do so after its strained relations with the NC. Secondly, with the chances of a pre-poll alliance between the Congress and NC becoming bleak possibilities for triangular contest in six Lok Sabha constituencies and in maximum number of Assembly segments have become bright. Under this situation the pro-Government vote may get split giving benefit to the PDP.Reports said that the NC President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, was trying hard to secure intervention by the Congress high command so that the hopes for a pre-poll or even post-poll alliance between the NC and the Congress were not dashed to the ground. |
