Jammu, Jan 12 : BJP today held the J-K Government accountable for the "acute financial crisis" of the state and said the situation would have been different had the ruling party taken progressive measures. "National Conference(NC)-Congress government is accountable for the acute fiscal crisis into which it has landed Jammu and Kashmir," the chief spokesperson of J-K unit of BJP, Jitendra Singh said here. As the coalition government enters the last leg of its six-year term, it cannot be allowed to leave the state coffers empty behind it, Singh said.
He said the worsening economy is a vindication of the argument in favour of removing retrogressive constitutional barriers, which have prevented the State from realising its full economic potential.
The scenario would have been much different, had the ruling party concentrated on progressive measures at ground level instead of harping on symbolic issues like 'autonomy' and AFSPA, he claimed. The government is unable to release the salary of its employees on time and is spending only Rs 9,378 crore out of state's total budget of Rs 38,608 crore on development activities, he alleged.
The state government's dependence on the Centre is such that if they withhold funds the entire state machinery goes out of gear and senior officials rush to Yojana Bhavan in New Delhi to get the funds released, he said. |
