| Speaker calls for early implementation of border migrants rehabilitation programme | | | Jammu, March 28 Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand has stressed upon the administration to speed up process of rehabilitation of Khour border migrants who were uprooted from their homes during the Kargil conflict. While reviewing the progress of border migrants package received from the Central Government, Speaker directed officers to complete land acquisition process at the earliest and start demarcation of plots for alternate shelters for 6072 families living at zero line so that these shelters could be utilized during requirement. It may be recalled that Central Government has already sanctioned a package of Rs. 78 crore for rehabilitation of Khour border migrants who were forced to leave their homes during due to heavy shelling across the border. That package is under execution and lot of work has been done under including construction of lanes and drains, restoration of power, water supply, repair of damaged houses, school buildings and other infrastructure. The package also covers clearance of barren land, which remained unattended for some years. Now most of the families have returned back to their homes and started routine activities. One of the main ingredients of package is alternate shelter at some safer place for such families who are situated at the zero line, which could be used by them during the emergent situation. Additional District Development Commissioner Mr. Sourav Bhagat briefed the Speaker on the progress achieved in the package. He informed that land acquisition process is near completion and as soon as the same is over, the demarcation of plots would be undertaken simultaneously. MLA Akhnoor Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Additional Commissioner Jammu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Chief Engineer, PDD (M&RE), Jammu, Superintending Engineers, R&B and officers of other departments were present in the meeting.
