| Limping back to normalcy; Curfew lifted in Mendhar | | | Jammu, March 28 Life is limping back to normalcy in Mendhar town of border district Poonch as the authorities lifted the curfew, which was imposed following the clashes between the two communities over the possession of a piece of land. Life in Mendhar resorted back to normal after the town was engulfed by communal disturbance on March 22. Reports from the area revealed that following the improvement in the situation the authorities decided to lift curfew completely today. A senior police officer said that the authorities were monitoring the situation closely from last three days following the settlement between the leaders of two communities. “We were giving short relaxation in curfew so as to assess the situation”, he said adding “As the things have improved we decided to lift the curfew completely from today”. The curfew was imposed in the town following the outbreak of clashes between the two communities, which erupted following the demolition of an under-construction structure by the police over a disputed land. The structure was being constructed to start a Madrassa on a land, claimed by the other community. Trouble brewed up in town from the last few days was finally resolved after the leaders of both the communities reached an agreement on the issue. The owner of the land Mahesh Chander Sharma agreed to donate two canals of land to the Trust for the construction of Madrassa. |
