Et Report Jammu, Jan 27 : Jammu Province Transport Association yesterday announced to go on indefinite strike from tomorrow demanding hike in passenger fares. The transporters are demanding 40 per cent hike in the passenger fare asserting that the prices of diesel is increasing twice a month and it has increased by Rs 8.50 per litre during the past one year."We have approached the government number of times with our demand but nothing has been done," Anil Chopra, a transporters union leader said. He added that earlier on December 31, the government said that the matter is being discussed and would be cleared by the Cabinet but nothing concrete has come. "We had a meeting with the Transport Commissioner today and the matter was once again put-forth before the government," he added and said the transporters have not yet postponed the strike. Meanwhile, Transport Commissioner Saurabh Bhagat said due to certain reasons, the Cabinet meeting could not take place and the proposal had already been sent to it. "Next Cabinet is likely to be held by the end of this month and now it is up to the cabinet to take decision on the issues and demands of the transporters," said Mr Bhagat adding that the transporters have assured them to defer their strike till January 31. |
