| Omar suggests Azad to resign if centre sides with Mufti on troop cut | | | Jammu, March 29 National Conference Chief Omar Abdullah on Thursday advised Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to immediately resign from his post and not to return home from New Delhi if centre did not listen to his viewpoint on the issue of troop cut. “Azad sahib you have discussed the issue in separate meetings with Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and now I advise you not to return home if centre decides to back PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed’s viewpoint on the contentious issue sidelining your viewpoint". "It would be appropriate for you to send your resignation instead of returning home, Omar said amid thundering applause from the strong gathering. Addressing a huge rally here at parade ground, Omar Abdullah said, the issue of withdrawal of troops is debatable but the manner in which one political party with mere 18 MLA’s is blackmailing New Delhi and pressing its demand is highly objectionable and not at all acceptable to National conference. " We will not tolerate this blackmailing and the issue is not only linked with Mufti Mohd Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti only it is the issue connected with the three regions of the state". Omar said the stand taken by the state chief Minister on the issue of withdrawal of troops is appropriate and all the political parties and people of all three regions should be consulted by the centre before taking any decision in this regard. Targeting Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for taking u-turn Omar said, "you hold highest office and you are Prime Minister of the country. You should not indulge in double speak on the issue. There should be only one voice and if you regularly change your stand it will ultimately reflect on your stature and it doesn’t suit you at all”. In his half an hour long speech, Omar blasted false claims of the coalition government that it was working for the betterment of the state populace. He touched almost every crucial issue including growing unemployment in the state, lack of industrial growth, compensation to farmers, old age pension scheme, subsidy to transporters, SC/ST ,hike in salaries of ReT teachers, poor PDS system and return of Kashmir pandits to Kashmir valley promising that if in the coming elections the National conference was voted to power he would consider all their demands and work hard to solve them. He said, huge response from the people in Jammu region has given them high hopes that people are really fed up with the existing political dispensation in the state and are yearning for change.
