JAMMU, Feb 02: Pandorian Club, Mishriwala and Bachyal Clubs won their respective matches to strengthen their positions in the ongoing Ist Lakhan Singh Chib (Tunna) Memorial Twenty20 Tournament at village Chack Jaffer, here today. In the first match, Pandorian Club trounced Janipur XI by three wickets. Batting first, Janipur XI set a target of 95 runs, which, in reply, Pandorian Club chased losing seven wickets. Rajat was declared man of the match. The second match of the day won by Mishriwala Club, who beat Jaswan XI by 25 runs. Earlier, Mishriwala Club set a target of 109 runs, which Jaswan could not chase. Vishu was adjudged man of the match. In another match of the day, Bachyal Club defeated Domana XI in super over. === Open Taekwondo meet held
JAMMU, Feb 02: Organised by the Jammu Kashmir Taekwondo Association, the three-day 3rd Open Taekwondo Championship concluded at Brahman Sabha, Parade, here today. As per a handout issued here today, around 400 players took part in this competition in different age and weight groups of boys and girls. Jammu district claimed the overall trophy while Samba finished second. In the valedictory function, general secretary of the All India Youth Congress, Vikram Malhotra was chief guest, who presented medals to the winners. General secretary of J&K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma was guest of honour. JAMMU, Feb 02: Jammu and Kashmir today lost to Punjab to stay at second position in the group in the ongoing zonal qualifying round of the Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy at Dr B R Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi. As per the reports reaching here, Punjab registered a solitary goal win against fighting J&K to top the pool with six points out of two wins. J&K conceded the only goal in the 37th minute and could not level the score after the breather despite creating lot of opportunities. Now, Punjab shall be playing against Uttar Pradesh while J&K shall compete against Himachal Pradesh. Looking into the possibilities, the J&K chances of qualifying remains alive provided Uttar Pradesh beat Punjab. ====
CSACC of Jammu lifts BJYM T20 trophy
JAMMU, Feb 02: Representing Jammu district, the Chander Shekhar Azad Cricket Club (CSACC) today clinched the title trophy of the Twenty20 Tournament, organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) under ‘Khelega Yuva Jeetega Bharat’ at Parade Ground, here. In the final, CSACC defeated Udhampur XI by one wicket. Batting first, Udhampur XI lost all their wickets for 93 runs in 19 overs. Ankush Bandral remained top scorer with 27 runs. Sahil Bhalwal took four wickets from CSACC. In reply, CSACC attained the goal making 97 runs for nine wickets in 18.4 overs. Kaka was top scorer with 17 runs while Ankush claimed three wickets from Udhampur XI. Sahil Bhalwal was declared man of the match while man of the series trophy went to Anil Kumar. The winning team awarded with a cash prize of Rs 11,000 while runners-up, Udhampur XI got Rs 5,100. Now, the winner of the state level competition shall represent J&K in the North Zone tournament. In the final and valedictory function, State BJP general secretary (organising), Ashok Koul was special guest. POONCH, Feb 02: District Police chief Poonch, Shamsheer Hussian today declared open the Police Martyrs Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Government Degree College ground, here. In all, 32 teams are taking part in this competition on knock-out basis. Earlier, the inaugural day witnessed an exhibition game between YCC and Glamorous Club. The chief guest appreciated the organizers and appreciated those participating teams. This tournament is being organised by Abhinav Sharma and Rakesh Puri.
Jammu district wins State Kho-Kho Championship
JAMMU, Feb 02: Jammu district clinched the Ninth State (men) Kho-Kho Championship outplaying their counterparts from district Baramulla in the final played at Green Field Ground, here today. The event was organised by J&K Kho-Kho Association. Leading by 10 (14-04) points in the first innings, Jammu district made it an innings and four points win, courtesy brilliant game played by Balwinder Singh Chib in the third innings. Third place was shared by district Samba and Kathua. Earlier, in the semifinals, Jammu outplayed Kathua by an innings and seven points while Baramullah defeated district Samba by four points. In the quarterfinals, played in the morning session, Samba beat Pulwama by an innings and nine points while Jammu trounced Anantnag by 10 points. Similarly, Kathua downed Rajouri by a wafer thin margin of one point and Baramulla registered an innings and 15 points win over district Poonch. Soon after the final ended, general secretary of the Association, Bhupinder Singh Tirthi presented a detailed report of the event and thanked those individuals and agencies for their support in successful conduct of the championship.
First-ever cash prize
For the first time, the winners and runners-up teams in a state level kho-kho competition awarded with cash prizes, thanks to chief guest, Member Legislative Council, Devinder Singh Rana. Convinced with the performance from the finalist teams, the chief guest awarded the winners team with cash prize of Rs 20,000 while runners-up side got Rs 15,000. The unexpected incentive really made the finalist teams happy and there were celebrations all around the venue soon after the cheques were handed over to the team captains by Devinder Singh Rana.
Unhappy former Minister
Former Sports Minister, Harbans Singh, who happens to be the president of Kho-Kho Association, expressed his unhappiness over the lack of encouragement to the rural games of kho-kho, kabaddi and volleyball from the present coalition government. Form Minister resented the lack of technical support to the rural games and mentioned that there was only one coach for the kho-kho game in entire state.
Council to enroll qualified stuff
Disclosing the gathering the initiatives being taken by the State Sports Council, invited as special guest, Joint Secretary of the State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma said that the autonomous sports body has processed the cases of some qualified individuals for their appointment as coaches.
