Katra, Feb 2: Several water tanks of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in villages of Panchayat Nalla-Makol have been left uncovered, posing a serious threat to around 6,000 souls of said villages, but concerned authorities have turned a Nelson eye towards the issue. Residents of village Noti, Barnada, Makol, Mandir informed Early Times that most water tanks of PHE department, from which potable water was supplied to their villages, were uncovered. "Out of around one dozen water tanks, one or two have covers, while others san any cover, inviting serious health problems", they said. They further said that cracks had developed in some water tanks while in several others there were big holes. "Many times, nomads could be seen washing clothes on the water tanks, following which waste water enters into the water tank", they said, adding that some days back, shoes, branches were found in the water tanks. "Animals, reptiles can easily enter into the water tank and if same get killed, the water will be poisoned and there is every possible threat of untoward incident", they said. Lambardar Shamsher Singh said that in the last one year, they had made several appeals to concerned Assistant Executive Engineer Dwarika Nath, but he feigned total ignorance. "Instead of taking some appropriate step, AAE asked us to take up the matter with higher authorities", he alleged. "We had also approached senior officials of Nowshera, and they had assured action, but so far no action has been taken and water tanks remained uncovered", he said. He further said that PHE had also made their sub-division at Devak, where JAE Dwarika Nath, would have to sit there and address the grievances of public. "But AEE always remained in Sunderbani, instead of Devak sub division office", he said. Executive Engineer Nowshera RK Gupt a also assured to direct AEE to remain at Devak sub division office, but all in vain. |
