PM to inaugurate 101st ISC today: Vigil stepped up

Jammu, Feb 2: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reached here to inaugurate the six-day-long Indian Science Congress tomorrow at University of Jammu.
The Prime Minister arrived at Jammu Technical Airport at 1500 hrs from where he left for Raj Bhawan for a review of security in the state, reliable sources told .
Dr Manmohan Singh was received at the airport by a battery of dignitaries including Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Members of the Council of Ministers, Parliament Member and President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, Saif-ud-Din Soz, Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey and Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad. The sources said that after the security review, the Prime Minister will hold consultations with Governor N N Vohra. The arrival of the Prime Minister has put the city of temples on high alert and City was not looking less than a cantonment. Checking and frisking was common practice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but when it is matter of Prime Minister's Visit, the security agencies do not take any chance on the security issue, which put the common masses to inconvenience. There was lesser traffic on the roads today due to sunday, but whosoever were on the roads, were facing lots of difficulties on every chowk and crossing in the city. All the matadors and Auto Ricksha were stopped all the check nakkas.The security at Railway station and Airport has also been beafedup and no vehicle is being allowed to enter Airport and Railway station due to security reasons. "I had to see off my daughter, as she was going to Delhi alone, I have requested the Airport security to allow me till the departure launge of the airport, but they refused due to PMs visit," said Sunil Koul. "The security is fine, but it should not be at the cost of inconvenience to the commoners,"he added.
Karan Sharma, a young boy said, "I was travelling from Janipur to Gandhi Nagar, the police havechecked us five times at different nakkas. It is good that they are serious about the security, but access of everything is bad."
