| Grenade explosion in Kishtwar, 4 wounded | | | Kishtwar, Mar 30 At least four persons, including two police personnel, were injured when suspected militants lobbed a hand grenade near Police Station Kishtwar, here this evening.
Reports from the area revealed that workers of Peoples Democratic Party were bursting crackers to celebrate the constitution of committees by central government to look into the demands of reduction of troops and withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Power Act.
As the celebrations were going on, unidentified persons, suspected to be the militants, appeared from a by-lane and lobbed a hand grenade targeting Police Station at around 7:15 PM. The grenade, however, missed the target and exploded in the road.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that at least four persons were injured in the explosion. The injured also include two police personnel.
Panic gripped the area and people started running for shelter soon after the attack. The militants reportedly managed to escape taking cover of darkness.
The injured were undergoing treatment at Sub District Hospital, Kishtwar. Their identification could not be ascertained immediately. (NAK)
Rajouri massacre a lesson for those demanding troops withdrawal: Azad ‘Parties should refrain from politicizing security matters’ Jammu, Mar 30 (NAK): Asking political parties not to meddle in security matters, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said those demanding troop’s reduction should learn a lesson from the massacre of labourers in Rajouri.
Five labourers were killed and four other were injured after some unidentified armed men indiscriminately fired upon them at a construction workers’ camp in Rajouri district today.
Indirectly hitting at PDP while talking to media persons at Army hospital where he had gone to see the those injured in Rajouri massacre, Azad said “they should learn a lesson from the blatant act of violence that have claimed several innocent lives” adding that political parties should refrain from interfering in security matters”. He said playing politics at the cost of the security of people is uncalled for adding that mixing up such sensitive issues with politics is highly detrimental to the larger public interests.
Reiterating his stand, Azad said “I have been telling for last one and a half month that time is not ripe for any such move (troop’s reduction) as militancy has not yet come to an end”. He said though in some areas militants have stopped their activities but this does not mean that they have completely vanished from the scene.
Without naming PDP , Azad said today’s massacre is an eye opener for those demanding the withdrawal of troops adding that these parties should now stop politicking with at the sake of the security of the people.
