| Dr Sharma inaugurates 2-day orientation-cum-tranquilizing training programme | | | Jammu, March 30 Minister of State for Industries and PHE, Dr Romesh Chander Sharma inaugurated two days Orientation and Tranquilizing Training Programme at Nature Interpretation Centre, Manda near here today. The training programme was organized by the Wild Life Protection department to impart training to field staff in using equipments like tranquilizing gun, chemical immobilization of wild animals so that the damage to human lives, live stock and crops is minimized. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sharma said that the state is going through an un-expected catastrophe “Man-Animal Conflict” which has posed threat to human lives. The main species who are associated in this conflict are Common Leopard and Asiatic Bear. Many people have been reported killed, injured during the current year. He said a considerable loss to livestock and crop has also been reported from various places of state, particularly from the habitations living inside or along the fringes of forests. Dr. Sharma said that the trainees would be benefitted by this programme to make use of their experience to handle equipment while dealing with the man-animal conflicts. He suggested that forest protection guards should be provided equipment of modern technique and convenience to reach the hilly and remote areas. Dr. Sharma also distributed cheques of Rs.8.50 lakh to nine people of Jammu region whose kins were killed by wild animals. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Wild Life Warden, Mr. A.K. Shrivastava said that the department has taken many measures to effectively deal these conflicts, besides other steps one of the important measure is to impart training at different levels. He informed that during the course of Man-Animal Conflict in the current year, 19 people were killed and 109 injured. Out of which 11 persons are reported to have been killed in Kashmir division and 8 persons in Jammu region. Among others Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Mr. Irshad Ahmed Khan and other senior officers of Forest and Wild Life Protection departments were present on the occasion. Later the Minister conducted surprise visit of the office of Directorate of Industries and Commerce and took stock of working of the department. He went round all the sections and checked records. He gave on the spot instructions to Director Industries to speed up the loan and other cases without any delay so that the deserving individuals are benefited without unnecessary inconvenience. He also instructed the Director to deal firmly with the erring officials. |
