| Police to encourage sports talent among youth: DGP | | | Jammu, Mar 31 Director General of Police Gopal Sharma has said that best players among the student community would be absorbed in the police organization and deserving players shall be awarded cash prize for boosting morale of sportsmen in the state He was inaugurating week long Ist Police Friendship Cricket Tournament - 2007 at Hostel Ground of G.G.M. Science College here today in which 14 colleges of Jammu province are participating. On the occasion, the Director General of Police in his brief address said that the tournament was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in order to bridge the gap between police and student community and inculcate a sense of friendship, cooperation amongst civil society. Sharma said that this tournament shall be an annual feature and shall be organized every year in November. He announced the winners shall be awarded DGP’s Cup. In addition to this other sports events shall also be organized and best players/athletes shall be suitably rewarded with cash prize of Rs. 50.000. Sharma said apart from that deserving players shall be sponsored for trainings at National Institute of Sports Patiala or other sports institutions for further coaching and some of them shall be absorbed in the police organization also. He said that sports activities are very essential for maintaining the physical fitness and stressed upon students to involve themselves in such activities for sharpening mental faculties as well. Among others, Inspector General of Police, (CID) K. Rajendra, Deputy Inspectors General of Police A.S. Lone and Gulzar Singh Slathia and other senior civil and police officers were present on the occasion.
