JAMMU, Feb 14: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Ashwani Sharma and Secretary, State Sports Council, Dileep Thusoo today extended a helping hand to the Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering Association (JKMA) in promoting mountaineering and sport climbing in the state.
Both these special guests were speaking in a function organised by the Association to felicitate the medal winners at the North Zone and National level as also those individuals and institutions, who supported the activities of the organization in the year 2013.
Speaking to the gathering, chief guest, Ashwani Sharma promised financial assistance in raising sport climbing infrastructure in the rural areas, especially in his constituency of Bishnah.
Secretary, Sports Council, who presided over the function, disclosed that the autonomous sports body was in the process of finalizing a project to construct a national standard climbing wall within the MA Stadium.
Dileep Thusoo also assured sponsorship to the talented stuff in basic mountaineering courses and financial help to those young boys and girls in advance coaching outside the state in sport climbing.
Earlier, Association released the souvenir with regard to the North Zone Sub-junior Sport Climbing Championship held in Jammu and related activities that took place in the state.
In the meantime, the Mountaineering Association honoured those handicapped boys and girls involved in the activities, sponsored by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee at Jammu.
A detailed report of the activities held in 2013 was presented by general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria amidst highlighting the difficulties and demands.
Among those individuals felicitated by the Association were Bindia Sharma, Shilpa Charak, Martunjay Sharma, Shivani Charak, Aman Dogra, Ajaydeep, Muskan Abrol, Nitia Sharma, Arundeep Singh, Hardeep Singh, Aman Dogra, Vikrant Singh, Ashish Thakur, Souravdeep Singh, Vanshika, Rupali Verma, Parshant Chib, Asia Suryavanshi, Siya, Kanu.
Those institutions presented with special awards included Shangrilla Public School, Oriental Academy, St. Xavier School, Shiksha Niketan, Sprawling Buds School School, JK Montessori, Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
Everest Climber, Sub-Inspector Ram Singh, mountaineer, Stanzin, Aarti Sharma, Shvetika Khajuria, Shahsi Kant, Anil Kumar, Akshay Sadotra, Anil Kumar and Rahul were also honoured for their achievements and contributions.
Among other guests were chairman of North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, S Bhatacharjee, president of Dogri Sanstha, Prof Lalit Magotra and presidents of various adventure clubs. |
