| Terrorists step up attacks on Pak forces | | | NOTwithstanding the fact that Prime Minister,Nawaz Sharif, has stated that he was ready to give another chance to peace talks with the Taliban, terrorists have derailed whatever level of normalcy was left in Pakistan when they carried out series of IED and bomb explosions during the last two days in which more than 18 people, most of them security personnel, were killed and over 50 people were wounded. In Thursday's incident in Karachi 13 persons were killed and 47 others, including civilians, were wounded The explosion, targeting a police bus near Razzaqabad police training college in Karachi's Shah Latif Town, took place in the morning hours.Whether the explosion was the result of a suicide bomber blowing up himself or was the outcome of an explosive laden car hitting the police bus transporting official for security duty or the explosion was triggered by a remote control device is not as important as the impact of the attack. In fact during the last two to three years Pakistan has witnessed series terrorist attacks and most of these were carried out against the security forces, including the Army units and even the blasts were triggered near the Army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Karachi in particular and the Sindh province in general have remained an easy target for the terrorists. These terrorists have also incited sectarian violence after they attacked Shia mosques with bombs and guns in which scores of Shias were killed. It is in this context that Nawaz Sharif led Government had volunteered to hold negotiations with terrorists, especially Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Yes,negotiators from the Government side had a couple of preliminary rounds of talks with the representatives of the TTP but there was no progress because the TTP wanted sharia law to be enforced in Pakistan. Negotiators representing Pakistani Taliban insurgents said there was no chance of peace in Pakistan until the government embraces Islamic Sharia law and US-led forces withdraw completely from neighbouring Afghanistan. Well the US led NATO forces were getting ready to withdraw from Afghanistan but it may not be an easy task for an elected Government in Islamabad to enforce Islamic sharia law in a country that has pledged to uphold democratic traditions and practices. And delay on the part of Islamabad in announcing its commitment to enforce Islamic sharia law is said to have punctured peace talks thereby encouraging terrorists to carry out bigger and deadlier attacks on the camps and convoys of security forces. Not only this the vertical division in Tehrik- i-Taliban Pakistan is also stated to be responsible for a spurt in the level of armed attacks on the security pickets and camps. The splinter terrorist groups are opposed to peace parleys and those who are in favour of negotiations have been left out and want to be heard and invited to talks. This has added to the level of confusion that has gripped Pakistan. The tragedy with Pakistan is the result of its continued patronage the Army, the ISI and other political leaders were providing to the terrorists, operating in Pakistan, in Afghan-Pak border belt and in Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad is still not prepared to buy peace with India which could help Pakistan to deal firmly with its internal problems.Possibly Islamabad believes that by raking up the Kashmir issue and by trying to force New Delhi to settle the most ticklish issue Pakistan may keep terrorists in good humour. Islamabad is unaware of the fact that terrorists want a major slice in the Government making whether in Pakistan or in Afghanistan. Hence Islamabad needs to galvanise its Army and other security agencies for launching a multi-dimensional operations against the terrorists. It should not feel shy if it gets military assistance from the US and India for crushing terrorist outfits. If it does so,there lies chances for political and security stability.
