| Mehbooba condemns police action on mourners, lensman at Shopian | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 14: Terming the police action on the mourners at Pinjura at Shopian as unwarranted and uncalled for, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today said use of force on innocent people is highly regrettable in any civilized society. She also expressed her sympathies with the Greater Kashmir lens man, Sajad Muniwardi, who was ruthlessly beaten by policemen while performing his professional duties. While condemning the police action, Mehbooba said to protest is a democratic right of people, but, unfortunately, force has become the only tool in the hands of present government to silence the voices of people. She said it is ironical instead of showing a democratic face of the system; the government has been resorting to brute methods to reach out to the people. She said National Conference-led government has let loose war on every section of the society and seems it is on mission to silence the genuine voices of people by such inhuman methods, so that it becomes easy for it to loot the state and its resources. Expressing her solidarity with the photojournalist, who has suffered multiple injuries by police beating, the PDP president demanded a thorough investigation into the matter to get the culprits to book. |
