Kathua, Feb 14: A two-day National Seminar On 'Environmental Education: The New Frontier ' is organized by Department of Sciences and Social Sciences, Government Degree College, Kathua (J&K) in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research North-Western Regional Centre Panjab University, Chandigarh was inaugurated by Ch. Lal Singh Member of Parliament, Udhampur-Kathua Constituency The inaugural function began with the lightening of traditional lamp by the dignitaries and a welcome address by Prof. Nater Singh Principal, G.D.C. Kathua, in which he mentioned various area's that needs to be focused on Environment Education. The key note address was read out by Prof. Amarjit Singh, GNDU, Amritsar on the topic "Paradigm of Environment". In his address Ch. Lal Singh stressed on the importance of saving our environment by planting more number of trees and avoiding modern amenities and he also appreciated the efforts of the College in organizing such a National Level Seminar. He was really overwhelmed by the response shown by participants. A total of 73 abstracts are published. In plenary session, Prof. Bupinder Zutshi , School of Social Sciences JNU, New Delhi deliberated on Sustainable Development. Earlier Prof. P.K. Rao, organizing secretary of the seminar introduced the topic of the seminar 'Environmental Education: The New Frontier '. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Renu Nanda, Jammu University, K.C. Sharma, Executive President CTM, Kathua, Dr. Janak Singh, Prof. K.C. Badgal, Dr. A.K. Malhotra, Prof. Yog Dutt, Prof. Dhian Singh, Dr. C.P. Sharma and various prominent citizens were also present. Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia presented the vote of thanks.The technical session of the seminar started immediately after the inaugural function in which 20 papers were presented. The seminar is being organized by Dr. R.K. Manhas, Dr. Ram Singh, and Dr. Surya Pratap Singh. |
