Kishtwar, Feb 14 : Even though the State government claims that the power distribution system as well as supply of electricity has improved since last few years, the reality is different and the people living in villages are the worst victims of power crises. The best example is the Nagool village of the Dool area in Kishtwar District where the Power Development Department has failed to restore the electricity since last month. Situated 15 KM from District Headquarter Kishtwar and merely 500 meters away from 390 MW Dool-Hasti Power Project, the village is without electricity sin 23-12-2013. While talking to "Early Times", the locals of Nagool village having population of around 1000 souls said that due to some technical fault in the electricity transformer installed in the village, the village is without electricity since then. They said that even though the department has replace the transformer twice, added that both the transformer fails to function as the department has sent the faulty transformers as replacement. They said that the distribution lines leading to the village are barbed wires connected with trees threatening the human life. "We are merely 500 meters away from the dream power project of NHPC supplying power rest of the country, but we people living in the close vicinity of the power project are deprived from electricity" said Azad Hussain of village Nagool. He said that at the time of construction of power project, the NHPC authorities assured free power supply to the inhabitants living in and around the project, but even after over 8 years of commission of the power project; people get nothing and even are deprived from regular power supply for which the people paid money. He said that despite repeated request to the concern authorities, the electricity supply in their village is still suspended. "We provided our land for the construction of this project--- NHPC neither provided jobs to us or our children neither free electricity" said 60 year old Mohammad Rajbullah. He said that government must take appropriate steps to pressurize the NHPC authorities to provide free electricity to all the inhabitants living around the project area. He said that similar power crises are also faced by the people living in adjoining villages. He also demanded immediate restoration of electricity to Nagool village, beside also demanded for augmentation of 25 KV transformer to 63 KVtransformer for smooth and improved supply of electricity to the villagers. |
