| Estranged partners shake hands, attend cabinet meeting | | | Jammu, Mar 31 The estranged PDP is back to the big brother and so are its ministers who attended a cabinet meeting, convened by Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, here today in the civil secretariat. The PDP ministers had boycotted three cabinet meetings held since February 28 in protest against Chief Minister’s refusal to acknowledge a letter sent by the leader of the PDP legislature party leader, Abdul Aziz Zargar, requesting Azad for convening a special meeting of the cabinet for a discussion on the demand for demilitarization and scrapping of AFSPA. Prior to the reconciliation process carried by the Prime Minister and AICC Chief Azad had taken a decision to go ahead with the cabinet meetings even if the PDP Ministers remained absent. And the PDP had decided to keep off the cabinet meetings till the matter was sorted out by Delhi and later approved by the Political Affairs Committee. In the light of changed political situation the PDP leadership had rescheduled the timing for the PAC meeting in Srinagar to enable PDP ministers to attend the cabinet meeting in Jammu. And when the PDP ministers walked into the Chief Minister’s chambers in the civil secretariat they carried a laboured smile on their faces. A senior Congress Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma, was the first to exchange pleasantries with the cabinet colleagues from the PDP. Except for the Chief Minister, who wore a determined face, ministers from the Congress and the PDP were seen in a light mood before the start of the meeting.
